University of Limerick
1.1 Honours Degree
2017-2021
I graduated from the University of Limerick in 2021 as a secondary school teacher of Engineering, Technology, and Graphics. Through this course I developed a high level of hand and machine skills in the area of material processing and manufacturing. This allowed me to develop my knowledge and skills in the ever growing area of engineering and technology. In the area of graphics I developed a strong understanding of the graphical principles that underpin the technology subjects. Alongside this I developed my pedagogical skills that support the teaching and learning of these areas.
Some modules I have completed include:
Design and communication graphics (several)
Process technology (several)
Design and technology (several)
Foundational education studies (several)
Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest
2021-present
I began my PhD studies in 2021 focusing on the development of spatial skills within secondary level technology education. Through my research I have worked closely alongside the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) to develop and deliver teacher CPDm around spatial learning in a STEM classroom. From this we have rolled out a spatial thinking training course for TY students across 25 schools in Ireland as a piloting process. Along with colleagues at Technological University of Dublin, and the University of Cincinnati, I am currently investigating the development of spatial skills and the educational transfer of such skills among the TY participants.
I received the presidents doctoral scholarship from the Technological University of the Shannon: Midland Midwest. This provides me with a fee waiver for the completion of my PhD studies alongside yearly funding.
I recieved this award during 4th year of my undergraduate studies. This was awarded on the basis of achieving the highest QCA among access students in my year.
